The current mid-sized Toyota 4Runner SUV represents the vehicle's fourth generation that was introduced in 2003. The 4Runner is a well-known 4-door, sport-utility vehicle that can accommodate five to seven passengers, depending upon the model and trim. This year, the 4Runner is available in three different trim levels, such as the base SR5, Sport Edition and Limited. For each of the trims, there is a choice of two engine configurations. The first is a base 4.0-liter V6 engine that provides 236 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. This Toyota 4Runner engine achieves 16-mpg in the city and 21-mpg on the highway. The other engine is more powerful. The 4.7-liter V8 engine gives 260 horsepower and a good 306 lb-ft of torque. For both the engines, a five speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard. The 5-speed electronically controlled automatic overdrive (ECT) helps in giving a good gas mileage. As the prices of fuel are increasing in every two months time, the 2008 Toyota 4Runner Engine when mated with a five-speed transmission seems a much better option.
Five-speed Automatic Transmission
Toyota Motors Company has given only one transmission. There are no other choices, as far as the transmission is concerned. But, when it comes to performance, there will be no complaint, as the five-speed automatic transmission gives superb performance. This transmission is far better than the four-speed automatic transmission that was available on the 2007 models. The 4Runner's standard five-speed automatic transmission adapts gear-shifting patterns as per the driving conditions and driver's input. Shift logic holds gears on inclines for power and on descents for increased engine braking, which can be helpful when towing.
Apart from the transmission, there are many more additions that make the 4Runner a better bargain in the mid-sized segment.
